The districts of the 6th arrondissement

The 6th arrondissement is located on the left bank of the Seine and is one of the capital’s most exclusive areas, characterized by Haussmann-style buildings. It includes the Latin Quarter, home to the prestigious Sorbonne University; Saint-Germain-des-Prés, centered on the abbey of the same name; Odéon, famous for the Odéon theater; Notre-Dame-des-Champs, organized around the eponymous station; and Luxembourg, famous for the Jardin du Luxembourg.
The arrondissement is bounded to the north by the Seine, to the south by Boulevard du Montparnasse, to the west by Rue de Sèvres and Rue des Saints-Pères, and to the east by Boulevard Saint-Michel. The area is also home to major cultural institutions, including the École des Beaux-Arts and the Institut de France.

Landmarks in and around the Best Western Paris 6th arrondissement

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés district is home to one of the arrondissement’s best-known landmarks, the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This is one of the oldest churches in Paris. It is attached to an abbey palace built in the Romanesque period and restored in the 1970s. The medieval church of Saint-Sulpice, with its two imposing towers at the entrance, is also worth a mention. The rococo interior is simply magnificent.

On rue de Rennes, the church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs is a majestic Romanesque religious edifice. It stands on the corner of Boulevard du Montparnasse, with the famous Montparnasse Tower in the background. Not to be confused with Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, another iconic Parisian landmark in the 4th arrondissement.

Shopping enthusiasts will prefer rue de Rennes, where you’ll find the former Félix Potin building, now occupied by Zara stores, and the former Grand Bazar building, now a Fnac store and bookshop. As you enter Boulevard du Montparnasse, we recommend a stroll through Galeries Lafayette, located at the foot of the Montparnasse Tower. And why not continue to Le Bon Marché (7th arrondissement), a department store famous for its large grocery store?
